ON WRITING:

SOME OF MY PET PEEVES AS A WRITER

by

Frank Westcott

*being told I should write such and such to be successful

*having others view success in terms of dollars and cents

*being asked to explain a piece of my work

*being asked to read someone's work to offer suggestions. I am very uncomfortable in this role. Therefore, I prefer not to do it

*being asked about celebrity authors I may have come into contact with, or know

*having people look for me in my stories or draw conclusions about me from my stories

*the voice appropriation controversy

*the lack of a generic pronoun meaning both his and her to make writing easy and at the same time not sexist

*book burning

*any form of censorship inflicted upon an adult readership

*power failures while I am on computer
