RECLAIMING OUR PLANET... ONE LITTLE BIT AT A TIME

HISTORY:
I began this in 1988 while researching my book on the beaver, The Beaver - Nature's Master Builder (Hounslow Press, publisher Anthony Hawke. Toronto, 1989. Now part of The Dundurn Group, Toronto, Canada.).
In 1988 while spending so many hours sitting by my favorite beaver lodge, I couldn't help thinking how the beavers specifically and nature generally instinctively acted in a fashion that enabled nature to heal herself.
In other words, I couldn't help thinking how nature knew best how to heal herself. I thought how it was arrogant of me, humankind, to think I did. Like all organisms, Nature if seen this way, knew best what to do for her own welfare. Nature healed herself.
Like all organisms, striving or struggling, Nature was built to heal.
Interesting, these thoughts.
So..., back then I decided that each year I would let a little more of my property go wild, letting it do what it wanted... letting Nature take her course. Perhaps by this I could contribute to healing our planet.
And in so doing, maybe just maybe, contribute to Us healing Us... inwardly and outwardly.
It is a Magnificent Journey, this.
I often call it a Magnificent Legacy we all carry.
There is no Magic to being part of this.
Simply in your way, let some, however small, portion of land go natural. Let it Be and Grow, as it will, attracting to itself who and what it must be it a butterfly a hummingbird or an insect so small you cannot see it, yet something inside you tells you... some new creature is visiting, perhaps taking up residence in your special place. And in this you take up more residence within yourself. However small the amount matters not. It matters that you do this. In this Doing you will find a Grace and a Humility and a Reverence for Life unknown to you before. It is a nice thing this. And in some ways as You contribute, how ever small, to the Healing of Nature, you too Heal.
It is a wonderful thing this.
There is no membership. There are no fees. There is no office. This is simply about people letting Nature Be and Do what She does Best... Heal Herself.
Perhaps what we seek, as well, for ourselves.

Then if someone asks, you can tell them what you are doing, how and why. It is that simple. Truly a "roots" movement. Perhaps in a metaphorical sense and a real sense returning to our own roots, our indigenous natures. Our indigenosity.
Some who live in an apartment or are children wonder how they might do this. Simply get a container, go to some naturally growing place, borrow some earth, place the earth in your container, place your container somewhere it will receive rainfall and let it be. The wonders of Nature will begin for you in that moment.
Enjoy your true beginning.
